Technical progress has accompanied mankind since prehistoric times. Improving living conditions, optimising survival chances and expanding urban habitats have always been major technical challenges for the human race. The first tools were created to sustain life - spears used for hunting and defence, fur and meat cut up with stone age knives.
By the way, another important tool from the Stone Age was the drill. It was used to make precise holes in working objects without changing the material structures through displacement. A specimen of this drill can be admired today in the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann near Düsseldorf.

GREENKEEPING WITH GRUNDOMAT
Set amidst the lush green hills of the Staffordshire countryside, England, JCB Golf & Country Club offers an exclusive golfing experience that includes premium restaurants and luxury accommodation. When installing a 150 m drainage pipe to connect the hotel lodges to a pumping station, a soil displacement hammer was used to cross underneath a 10 m wide road. The job was completed in under 2.5 hours, including assembly and disassembly of the GRUNDOMAT 130 mole. Best of all, the beautiful landscape remained completely untouched.

Static pipe bursting means a completely new pipe with a service life of 80–100 years. With GRUNDOBURST damaged pressure and free-flow pipes can be renewed in the existing pipe path for almost all types of damage and old pipe materials. Consequential costs, due to soil settlement, groundwater impact and road damage are avoided.

Five powerful models with pulling forces from 400 to 2,500 kN allow pipe renewals up to Ø 1,200 mm from manholes or starting pits. In this process, the old pipes are replaced by a new pipe with a smaller, equal, or larger diameter, which enables the adaption of the pipe capacity. Roller blades distribute the force sensibly between cutting, displacing and pulling in the new pipe.

With the QuickLock bursting rods even slight curve radii can be driven. Thanks to the quick release coupling, a time-consuming screwing is no longer necessary and at the same time the connection is absolutely tension- and shear resistant. The burst rods, which are produced from one piece, are highly resilient and have a longer service life than screwed rods.

To ensure that media and product pipes are not overstrained during the installation process, the impacting tensile strengths must be measured and recorded. This task is carried out safely and reliably by the GRUNDOLOG-tensile strength measuring devices for the perfor- mance classes: 150 kN, 400 kN, 1,250 kN, 2,550 kN.
